Federal Reserve: Minnesota’s Educational Disparities Span All Parts of the State
The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis recently released a report that confirms Minnesota’s achievement gaps are among the largest in the nation. The report examined patterns of student achievement, graduation rates and college readiness across demographic groups, socioeconomic status, school types and regions.
According to the report, metro area and rural schools and districts alike struggle to educate students of color and low-income students of all races. The report also highlights states and cities that, unlike Minnesota, have made progress in closing the gaps.
Our Foundation believes the report is a must read for all Minnesotans. We contacted the Federal Reserve to learn more and asked what’s ahead for their education research.
“The goal of the report is to document the extent and nature of disparities in education outcomes across Minnesota,” said Anusha Nath, a research economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis who co-authored the new report. “Understanding the underlying causes of these gaps and its long-term effects are the next steps in our research.”
