Inequities in Education

 

As part of our 20th Anniversary event, we gathered Minnesota education funders and thought leaders for a roundtable discussion about how we can close the opportunity and achievement gaps for children and youth of color. We discussed the reasons why Minnesota has the worst disparities in our nation, what solutions are possible, and how we can spark action. The following statistics helped guide the conversation. Only 21% of Minneapolis African American students are proficient in reading, resulting in a 59 percentage-point gap with white students.
